York Haverkamp is known for creating functional pottery. The work is most often created using stoneware and thrown on the potter's wheel. Surface decoration in the greenware stage most often includes faceting the exterior of pots.
Havercamp fires his wares in a cross draft cantenary arch woodfired kiln to cone 10 (2,350 degrees Fahrenheit), with the addition of soda. Havercamp's finishes are marked by this process: showing the trace remains of flame, ash, and soda as they moved through the kiln chamber. Surface glazes often appear earth tone.
